Marshals take down the Bombers 8-2 in game 1 and have an opportunity to sweep the Bombers tonight at home in game 2. The Marshals host the Bombers tonight at 7:05pm before heading down to Bryan for a two game series at Brazo Valley Wednesday and Thursday.
Marshals broke open the tie game in the bottom of the 4th and never looked back. Phillip Kunsa (Middle Tennessee State University) provided the first RBI with a single that scored Connor Scruggs (University of Texas at Dallas). Next batter Taylor Broadway (Tyler J.C.) scored on a balk to have a 2-0 lead after 4 innings. The Bombers got 1 back in the top of the 5th but the Marshals responded with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Casey Maack (Southern Miss) provided a 2 RBI double that scored Alex Galy (Tulane) and Southern Miss teammate, Jaylon Keys. Taylor Broadway switched places with a double of his own that plated Maack. Marshals had their lead cut by 1 in the top of the 7th but once again scored multiple in the bottom of an innning the Bombers score in. Marshals scored 3 by means of a RBI walk to Broadway that scored Keys, a wild pitch that scored Scruggs, and a RBI groundout by Kunsa that scored Maack. Brandon Talley (Louisiana Tech) kept the Bombers in check all night. Talley earned the win with an outstanding performance. He went 7 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and had 6 strikeouts. Alex Harper-Cook (University of Tennessee) and Austin Reich (Northwestern State) each went an inning of to complete the win for the Marshals.
The Marshals will finish the home series tonight at 7:05pm. The Marshals travel to Brazos Valley Wednesday and Thursday before returning home Friday and Saturday to host the Texarkana Twins.
